Past People Life

Terms of Use

Effective date: 21 October 2026

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

These Terms of Use govern your use of pastpeople.life, a memorial website run under the name Past People Life.

The service is operated by Scifoo Memories Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales under company number [pending registration], with its registered office at [to be published on registration] ("we", "us", "our").

You can contact us for any legal or privacy question at privacy@pastpeople.life. Please also read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which explain how we handle personal data and cookies.

2. The service as it is today

Past People Life is a place where a family keeps a memorial page for a relative who has died. Each page has a permanent link in the form https://pastpeople.life/p/<code> (an 8-character code; section 3 explains what "permanent" means and what it does not) whose QR code is engraved or fixed on the gravestone.

Today, the website is an early preview while the full service is being prepared. Its current features are:

There are currently no user accounts, no sign-up, no payments, no comments, no user uploads, no contact form, no newsletter, and no advertising. Creating and editing family memorial pages together, ordering plaques, and making payments will open later and will have their own terms when they open. These Terms of Use cover only the site as it operates today.

When we call a memorial link a permanent link, we mean how the link is designed, not a promise of how long it will work:

Our aim is for every memorial page to stay readable at its link for many years, at least as a simple read-only page. However, no small company can guarantee how long it will exist or how the internet will change, so this is our aim and not a guarantee that a link, a page or the site will work for any particular period. We may hide or remove content as described in section 6, and temporary interruptions may happen for maintenance, security updates or network issues beyond our reasonable control. Please keep your own copies of anything that matters to you. How this works in practice is explained in How long will a page last?

4. Using the site, QR codes, and gravestones

You may visit the site, open a memorial page by scanning a QR code on a gravestone or entering the code from the plaque, and download the SVG or PNG QR code files for their intended memorial purpose.

Engraving and plaques: we provide the digital QR code files only. If you or your mason engrave, print, or fix a QR code onto a gravestone or plaque, you and your mason are solely responsible for choosing suitable stone, materials, size, contrast, and workmanship, and for checking that the QR code scans reliably on several phones before and after engraving. We are not responsible for engraving or printing errors, unreadable engravings or plaques, weathering, or any damage to a gravestone, memorial, or plaque.

Cemetery and family permissions: before placing a QR code or plaque on a grave or memorial, you must obtain any consent required from the grave rights holder, the family, and the relevant cemetery, burial authority, local council, or church.

When using the site, you must not:

If you break these rules, we may block or restrict your access to the site, and you will be responsible for any foreseeable loss or reasonable costs we suffer as a direct result of your breach.

5. Our names, logo, and website content

The name Past People Life, the sprout logo, and the website's design, text, graphics, and software code belong to Scifoo Memories Ltd. You may download and use the QR code files provided on a memorial page for engraving or printing for that page, but you must not use our name or the sprout logo as your own or in a way that suggests we endorse you.

6. Questions, objections, and content removal

Although no memorial page on the site shows any names or personal data today, we treat memorials and family wishes with care. If you want to ask about or object to a page, please email privacy@pastpeople.life. We may temporarily hide or restrict content or a page while we look into an objection, family dispute, or legal concern, and we may hide or remove content or a page if we reasonably believe it breaks these terms, infringes others' rights, or breaks applicable law.

7. Availability and our responsibility to you

The website is currently provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use. Subject to the paragraph below, we may change, suspend, or withdraw any part or feature of the site, and we do not guarantee that the site will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, or that files or data will never be lost. Please keep your own backups of any downloaded QR code files and family materials.

Nothing in these Terms of Use affects your statutory rights as a consumer, or excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other matter where liability cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

Subject to the paragraph above:

8. Changes to these terms and transfer of the service

We may update these Terms of Use to reflect new features (such as family accounts, shared page editing, plaques, and payments), legal or regulatory requirements, or security and operational changes. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page, and for material changes affecting existing memorial pages we will give reasonable notice on the site. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you may stop using the site at any time.

If we transfer the service or our obligations under these terms to another organisation (for example, as part of a reorganisation or to keep memorial links working), we will ensure that the transfer does not reduce your rights under these terms.

9. Governing law, courts, and language

These Terms of Use are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you use the site as a consumer, you also keep any mandatory protections given to you by the law of the country where you live.

You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales will have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the site. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your own part of the United Kingdom, or in the courts of the country where you live if mandatory consumer law gives you that right.

We provide these terms in English and Russian. The Russian text is a translation; if the two versions differ, the English version prevails unless the mandatory law of the country where you live says otherwise.
