Cookie Policy
Effective date: 21 October 2026
Google Analytics is not switched on yet: there is no cookie banner and no Google Analytics cookie. The parts about it below describe how it will work once it is.
1. How we use cookies
This Cookie Policy explains how Scifoo Memories Ltd (registered in England and Wales under company number [pending registration], registered office: [to be published on registration]; "we", "us", "our") uses cookies on pastpeople.life (Past People Life). For how we handle personal data more generally, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
We keep our use of cookies minimal:
-
Language (
ppl_locale): when you open the site, our server checks the country your connection comes from for that request only (Russian for connections in Russia, English elsewhere) without setting a cookie. A cookie is set only if you click Eng or Рус to choose a language yourself. You can delete this cookie at any time by clicking Forget my language. -
Consent record (
ppl_consent): outside Russia (when JavaScript is enabled), we set this cookie when you press Accept or Reject on our analytics cookie banner, so you are not asked on every page. -
Analytics (
_gaand_ga_<property-id>): nothing from Google Analytics loads until you press Accept in the cookie banner. The Reject button is equally prominent.
Visitors in Russia and visitors without JavaScript: if Cloudflare places your
connection in Russia, our server removes the cookie banner and the
Cookie settings buttons and does not load Google Analytics. Without JavaScript,
the banner and Cookie settings buttons are not shown and no cookies are set
except ppl_locale if you click Eng or Рус.
2. Cookies we use
| Name | Purpose | Who sets it | How long | Needs consent? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
ppl_locale |
Stores your chosen interface language (en or ru) after you click
Eng or Рус.
|
First-party (pastpeople.life) |
1 year | No — website appearance preference exception; only set when you switch language. Delete anytime via Forget my language. |
ppl_consent |
Stores your answer (granted or denied) to the analytics cookie
banner so we do not ask on every page.
|
First-party (pastpeople.life) |
6 months | No — strictly necessary to record your cookie choice (set only when you press Accept or Reject outside Russia; never set in Russia or without JavaScript). |
_ga |
Stores a random identifier for Google Analytics 4 to distinguish visitors and count page views. | First-party (pastpeople.life, via Google Analytics) |
13 months | Yes — only set if you press Accept (never set for connections in Russia or without JavaScript). |
_ga_<property-id> |
Maintains session state for Google Analytics 4. | First-party (pastpeople.life, via Google Analytics) |
13 months | Yes — only set if you press Accept (never set for connections in Russia or without JavaScript). |
3. Changing or withdrawing your choices
Outside Russia (with JavaScript enabled), you can change or withdraw your analytics consent at any
time using the Cookie settings button at the top of this page (under the title)
or in the footer of every page. Clicking Cookie settings reopens the cookie
banner; pressing Reject sets ppl_consent to denied,
deletes the _ga and _ga_<property-id> cookies, and stops Google
Analytics.
To remove the language cookie (ppl_locale) and return to automatic language
selection, click Forget my language. If you have any questions about our
use of cookies, please email privacy@pastpeople.life.
